Safe Use of Pesticides Training Courses and Assessments

We offer both training and assessments in the Safe Use of Pesticides. Courses are run at our premises by local experienced trainer Martin Sampson. The assessments will also take place at our premises.

PA1

This is a one day course and is the foundation module covering legislation. The assessment for PA1 is a multiple choice computer based test. Candidates must successfully pass PA1 before taking other PA modules.

Objectives: Candidates will be able to:

1. Identify those key aspects of legislation which apply to the use of pesticides.

2. Identify the precautions necessary to use a product safely, using product label information.

3. Identify, select and understand the maintenance and storage of the correct personal protective equipment for use with a particular product as determined by a label and/or COSHH risk assessment. Follow appropriate personal hygiene procedures to prevent personal contamination. Follow the appropriate procedures for dealing with accidental personal contamination.

4. Understand the correct procedures for the storage of pesticides.

5. Understand the correct procedures for the disposal of empty pesticide containers, surplus pesticide and washings.

6. Understand the records that must be kept.

7. Understand the situations where pesticide application may pose a risk to people or the environment.

 

 

PA2 

This is a one day practical course for mounted, trailed or self propelled sprayers. The assessment will be held on a seperate day.

Objectives: Candidates will be able to:

1. Prepare the applicator for work, calibrate and operate it to ensure correct application rate without risk to themselves, other people and the environment.

2. Use the information detailed on product labels to determine the approved uses for the product and its potential hazards to human safety, non-target areas and the environment in general.

3. Carry out daily and routine maintenance on the applicator.

4. Carry out the correct procedure for cleaning personal protective equipment and application equipment which may have been contaminated with pesticide.

Pre-requisites: The foundation unit (PA1) is required by candidates before being assessed for this application unit.

Qualification - NPTC Certificate of Competence.

 

 

PA4S

This is a one day practical course for slug pelleter equipment - mounted or trailed.

Objectives: Candidates will be able to:

1. Know the legislative and safety regulations relating to the application of slug pellets

2. Assess the environmental factors relating to the application site.

3. Be able to read and interpret product information.

4. Be able to prepare and calibrate the application equipment.

5. Be able to operate the application equipment.

6. Know how to carry out post-operational procedures.

Pre-requisites The foundation unit (PA1) is required by candidates before being assessed for this application unit.

Qualification - NPTC Certificate of Competence.

Training

 

 

 

 

PA6A 

This is a one day practical course for hand held spraying equipment - knapsacks, hydraulic nozzle or rotary atomiser type sprayers, including pedestrian controlled machines.

Objectives: Candidates will be able to:

1. Prepare a hand held pesticide applicator for work, calibrate it and operate it to ensure correct application rate without risk to themselves, other people and the environment.

2. Use the information detailed on product labels to determine the approved uses for the product and its potential hazards to human safety, non-target areas and the environment in general.

3. Carry out daily and routine maintenance on a hand held pesticide applicator.

4. Carry out the correct procedure for cleaning personal protective equipment and application equipment which may have been contaminated with pesticide.
